Fedora Core 3 on Dell Lattitude C640

On this page I explain my experience installing the Fedora Core 3 distribution on my laptop.

Technical Specifications

CPU Intel Pentium 4 M 1.8

System Memory 768 MB

Video ATI Radeon Mobility 7500

Display SVGA 1024x768

Hard disk Hitachi 40 GB

Wired network Intel 100 Mbps

Installation

I didn't require any data from the previous install, so just popped the FC3 DVD in, booted up and followed the setup prompts.

All hardware was detected and installed without issue, except the display panel and the inbuilt modem.

Video and display

Since the laptop display panel was not detected, setup wanted to set the default generic display at 800x600. I changed this to LCD 1024x768 easily enough during the setup routine.

Wireless network

NDISWrapper

I downloaded v.11 of the NDISWRAPPER.sourceforge.net driver, and got it working with my Belkin 54G PCMCIA card.

I haven't bothered to sort out the modem issue, as I've been working on trying to establish a hibernation/standby facility. If/when I get this sorted I'll publish here.

Good luck
